Special Meeting Monday Regarding Controversial Plum Farms Development

Latest drawings proposed for Plum Farms in Hoffman Estates

Developers of the Plum Farms pulled their proposal to become a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, but the size of the development is still a big concern for surrounding communities and the Barrington 220 & Hoffman Estates 300 School Districts.

A Special Barrington 220 Board of Education Meeting will be held at Barbara B. Rose Elementary School Monday, April 17 at 4:45 p.m. The special meeting is scheduled to take place just prior to the Village of Hoffman Estates public hearing to approve the high-density zoning and annexation of the property that will become Plum Farms. The public hearing begins at 6:50 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 1900 Hassel Road in Hoffman Estates.

Barrington 220's School Board is concerned about the high-density of residential housing being considered for this property. The builder recently showed a proposal for over 1000 homes and additional office and retail space. No communication of how and where the children moving into the development would be educated has been communicated to the two districts impacted. According to Barrington 220, a possible new school site may need to be considered.

Owners of the property are pursuing annexation of the land into the Village of Hoffman Estates. The special public hearing taking place Monday night is to consider the annexation and zoning changes they would need in order to build the density of housing they desire. The Village of Hoffman Estates scheduled this special board meeting to come to a decision on the property.

Many residents in communities surrounding the area, including Barrington Hills and South Barrington, are very concerned about the Plum Farm development's density. Residents and the Village of South Barrington will have legal representation at the meeting.

Community members and local government officials aware of the project are unsettled by the Village of Hoffman Estates rush to vote on Plum Farm's plans. The most recent plans were just recently proposed and there have been no public meetings since that presentation.

Barrington 220 has communicated to families in their district that they will continue to work with the Village of Hoffman Estates and the owners of the property to promote a development that creates a responsible impact on the schools and local taxpayers.

The district is inviting everyone in the community to please join them at the Special Board of Education Meeting at Barbara Rose Elementary School to stay informed about the situation and learn how you can get involved.
