Maureen Hawkinson, Center Director/Owner

Maureen received her degree in Finance from DePaul University in Chicago. She has worked at various institutions including Citibank and Goldman Sachs. As a financial analyst, numbers were her life! Now she devotes her time to her four beautiful children and making sure that their "Math" edge remains sharp. Mathnasium made a difference in her sons' lives and she is hoping to bring that to many other students in the South Barrington/Hoffman Estates area.

FUN FACT: Maureen's fantasy dream job is to be a radio talk-show host.


Mark Hawkinson, Owner/Center Director

Mark was born and raised on Chicago's Northwest side. He attended Loyola University, majoring in Business Administration. He entered into the Chicago Commodities Markets at an early age and found his passion. Working in the Interest Rate Option market, Mark's strong fundamental math background serves him well in dealing with turbulent, ever-changing conditions that require split-second decision making and computational skills. He is a loving father of four beautiful children and hopes to bring good solid math fundamentals via Mathnasium instruction to the South Barrington/Hoffman Estates area.

FUN FACT: Before Mark dies, he is determined to take a stunt driving course.

Jennifer Rhyan, Center Director

Jennifer was born and raised in Palatine IL. She graduated in 2012 from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education (K-9). She worked as a student teacher, where she taught and observed multiple teaching techniques used in second, third, fifth and sixth grade levels. She also tutored children ages 8 through 18 during college. This past year she worked as a kindergarten and school-age teacher for KinderCare. Jennifer seeks to build strong communication and trust, while creating a partnership with each family. Jennifer looks to encourage her team of professional instructors to create a healthy, safe learning environment outside of school. By creating this environment, her goal is to inspire students to realize his/her full potential and capacity for learning, while ensuring that you receive exceptional service.

FUN FACT: Jennifer learned to snowboard in the Alps.  

Laura Jennison, Assistant Center Director

Laura was raised in Wood Dale IL. She is currently studying Kinesiology at University of Illinois at Chicago. She plans to attend graduate school at UIC also and become a pediatric occupational therapist. Laura took multiple AP mathematics classes, including AP Calculus, and was on the high honor roll for four years. She was on the swim team, marching band and a member of FCCLA. She worked in her high school's preschool for four years and loves working and educating children. She hopes to help every student she works with at Mathnasium achieve his or her goals in mathematics.

FUN FACT: Laura pretends to be Betty Crocker and loves to bake.

Nick Kinton, Senior Instructor

Nick was born and raised in Barrington, IL. Nick has always loved working with computers and has excelled in math and science classes. He was an honor roll student at Barrington High School, taking numerous AP classes as well. He also held officer positions in several high school organizations, including Future Business Leaders of America and the team captain of the FIRST Robotics Competition.

FUN FACT: Nick loves BBQ and smoking his own brisket. He played rugby in high school.

 

Katy DeMille, Instructor

Katy grew up in Wheaton, IL. She took advanced math courses up through AP Statistics in high school. While enrolled as a student at Wheaton College, she co-coordinated a tutoring program at local elementary schools. Katy graduated from Wheaton in 2009 with a BA in Elementary Education (K-9) and moved on to teach fourth grade for five years in Arlington Heights School District 25. Math is her favorite subject, and she especially enjoys working with individual students and small groups to target specific strengths and needs in math. Katy’s goal is to help Mathnasium students achieve excellence in math, while promoting the value of perseverance and a positive attitude.

FUN FACT: Katy studied abroad in South America, in both Chile and Argentina.

Aleyha Majeed, Instructor

Aleyha was born and raised in Chicago's Northwest suburbs. She is a currently studying at Benedictine University, majoring in Health Sciences. She plans to attend medical school in the future. Aleyha has always loved tutoring and working with children. While attending Barrington High School she was a mathematics teaching assistant, took several AP classes, and held officer positions in school organizations and clubs. Over the course of high school, she also has volunteered at elementary schools to tutor younger children. Aleyha believes that her dedication and love for math can offer help to any student who wants to achieve their goals at Mathnasium.

FUN FACT: Aleyha visited Cost Rica and went zip-lining and horseback riding.

Trent Greene, Instructor

Trent was born in Elgin, IL, but grew up in multiple towns in both Illinois and California. While attending Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Trent was in many different honors and AP classes. He is currently attending Harper College pursuing a degree in Biochemistry and plans on working in pharmaceuticals upon graduation.

FUN FACT: Trent enjoys playing the guitar. 

Harshini Chellasamy, Instructor

Harshini was born in Chicago and moved to Barrington at age ten. She is currently a senior at Barrington High School. Aside from being an AP Student, Harshini has been greatly absorbed with helping students who struggle with math. She has been a teacher’s assistant for both high school and middle school students and, currently, she is a math tutor at Barrington High School. Harshini believes that it is her ultimate purpose to help others succeed and be happy. As a result, she also volunteers for many different organizations that help out and care for those who are struggling. In the future, Harshini plans to become a psychiatrist. Harshini believes that her enthusiasm and love for teaching will allow students at Mathnasium to do their best to succeed.

FUN FACT: Harshini absolutely loves playing Xbox. Her favorite game is Black Ops 2.


SEASONAL STAFF

 

Matthew Zambelli, Instructor

Matt was born and raised in Hoffman Estates Illinois. He is currently attending Illinois State University, pursuing a degree in secondary education for chemistry. In high school, Matt took numerous AP classes, including AP Calculus, was on the high honor roll for years, as well as on the swim team and water polo team. He has been working with kids for a while as a coach or an instructor and strives to help each and every Mathnasium student achieve his/her goals in their math education.

FUN FACT: Matt spends all of his free time in the pool. He is currently on the ISU waterpolo team.

Vito Anzalone, Instructor

Vito is currently pursuing a mechanical engineering degree at Purdue University. Vito has always excelled in math and has taken numerous honors and AP math courses at the high school. He has always had a passion for math, and hopes to help others reach their full potential in the subject at Mathnasium of South Barrington.

Sara Anzalone, Instructor

Sara received her degree as a secondary mathematics teacher with an endorsement at the middle school level at Illinois State University. She currently works for North Shore School District 112 as a 8th grade algebra and geometry teacher. She teaches to her philosophy that engagement and involvement is key to having a successful education. Her number one goal is to help her students grow to enjoy and understand math. Teaching has always been a passion of hers and she hopes to bring a positive learning experience to all of the students at Mathnasium.
