President's Letter

Mary Dale

President, 2016-17

Dear Barrington Friends,

Thank you for your interest in Barrington Junior Women’s Club. Our organization is celebrating 80 years of service to Barrington. We are committed to improving the lives of women, children and seniors in our community. Since our inception in 1936, BJWC has continued to grow and evolve to today’s membership, over 200 women strong.

I am very honored to represent BJWC as its president for the 2016-2017 year. I believe that organizations are only as strong as the people who comprise them, and our members continue to amaze me with their passion, creativity and dedication to our cause. Through the talented efforts of these devoted volunteers, we are able to successfully fundraise and serve many of Barrington’s children, women and seniors.

BJWC understands that every woman has a talent and a passion unique unto herself. Because BJWC offers so many volunteer opportunities, it’s easy to find a project that speaks to you. Community Service options include programs like Giving Day, Reading at Sunny Hill, Delivering Meals on Wheels, Bike Barrington, Safety Town, Service to Seniors, and much more. We have programs during the day, evening and weekend so we are flexible with many work and family schedules.

We proudly generate $100K annually through fundraising. The Fall Fashion show, coming up on Nov 7th, is one of our annual highlights. This year’s theme, Diamonds & Pearls – A Rock Tribute To Fashion, celebrates our 80th Anniversary and promises to be one of our very best, providing a day of fabulous shopping and modern, cutting edge fashion. The proceeds from our fundraising efforts fund grants to over 20 different organizations. We also offer one of the only truly service based scholarship opportunities for those teens who have dedicated themselves to community service.

I have lived in Barrington for several years and am so glad my sister encouraged me to join BJWC. It has offered me a deeper connection to others and to my town. It provides an opportunity for all to meet fun, smart, talented women who dedicate their time and energy to improve the lives of others and affect change in a positive, tangible way. That sense of belonging while helping others is a win-win.

If you are interested learning more about this wonderful organization, please feel free to email me, Mary Dale at and I will forward your information to our membership committee. Our general meetings are the first Tuesday of the month from September to June (with the exception of January) and offer speakers on a variety of topics that our club supports. Our club requires its members to perform two hours of community service each year, serve on one of our many committees and support the Fall Fundraiser. Invite a friend to join you to our next meeting and become a part of our community and connection. For more information, please look throughout the site to read about our club activities.

Hope to see you soon,

The BJWC Committees: How You Can Get Involved

BJWC members join a committee each year that they work on. Most committees have co-chairs who lead the group and members that work collectively with them.  Committee roles cover the range of what we do from fundraising to community outreach to membership education, so there is something for everyone!  Members usually change committees each year so they can try different things within BJWC and get to know others within BJWC. See The 2016 Membership Committee Assignments
